Traveling with kids can be a highly stressful experience. Especially when you’re traveling with more than one under the age of 5 years old. In this regard, I would say that my husband and I are experts lol! We have traveled across the US, state to state and even internationally with children at least a dozen times in total. Most recently, we travelled approximately 9,000 miles and 21 hours from Las Vegas, NV, USA to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. If that’s not bad enough, we did it with three kids in tow ages 23 months, 4 years and 8 years. It was challenging, but honestly, it wasn’t as bad as it could have been thanks to these items. 5 Helpful Items for Traveling With Kids
1. Tach V3 3-Piece Hardcase Connectable Luggage & Carryon Travel Bag Set
If you are traveling with young kids on a long trip through airports, this item is a must have! It’s definitely on the pricier side, but worth the money for sure. Even with two adults present, you only have so many hands to manage the kids, luggage and any other travel gear. It is so helpful to have connectible luggage! Yes, most airports do have plenty of luggage carts around, but we have been in plenty of situations where we’ve found ourselves needing an extra hand.
2. Lightweight Infant Stroller with Compact Fold
Do not feel bad if you don’t own one of those super expensive luxury strollers. It is not necessary for travel! All you need is a lightweight easy fold stroller like this one from Summer. This particular one comes with plenty of extra storage and two cup holders which is unique for these type of umbrella strollers. With toddlers, a stroller is a super helpful item for getting through airports. In most cases, you can stroll right up to the door of the plane with it!
3. Nintendo Switch
This device is a lifesaver! My two older sons, 4 and 8, love playing on their Nintendo Switch. It keeps them entertained for hours which is what we want on a long flight. The best part for me is that it does not require Wi-Fi. Make sure you also pick up a carrying case as well to bring along the games and keep it protected.
4. Traveling with Kids Headphones with Share Splitters
With any entertainment device you choose to bring, you’re going to need a set of headphones. This model comes as a pack of two with a share splitter! The share splitter comes in handy when your kids are playing the same game or watching the same movie. Super helpful!
5. Pack ‘n Play
This final item is less about the journey and more about the destination. Whenever we are traveling with our toddler, my husband and I always have to consider where he will sleep. Bringing along a Pack ‘n Play that can serve as a toddler bed is a must! Make sure you grab the pack n play topper (mattress) for extra comfort for your little one.
Traveling with Kids Bonus Tip!
One of the most stressful times on a plan with kids is mealtime. I cannot tell you how many times I have had a drink or plate of food spill on me due to a squirmy kid. It is particularly bad when I’m in a row with all three kids, four food trays, and I’m also trying to eat. There just isn’t enough room!
So, here’s the bonus tip. Some airlines will offer, but even if you’re on one that doesn’t, ask them to bring meals for your kids first. That way, it is easier to manage feeding them without something getting knocked over. Another important tip is to ask the flight crew to remove the children’s tray before they bring yours or bring it back to the galley for them. Once the kids are fed and their trays are removed, you can eat your meal in peace (kind of lol).
