Have you ever wondered how to achieve “proverbs 31 woman” status? Keep reading.
So, here is the scene. Queen Mary races through the forest on horseback with each gallop sounding like a beating heart. Meanwhile, inside the castle, a royal advisory council, who presumes the queen is dead, meets to vote on whether to dissolve the monarchy. All four members of the council vote in favor of dissolving, and the final vote is left to the queen’s brother. Just as he begins to speak, Queen Mary bursts through the door, and all of the men respectfully stand to their feet in the presence of their queen.
“I am Mary Queen of Scots,” she says “and I have come for my throne.” Everyone kneels in her honor (end scene).
The Queen: A Woman of Admirable Character
This is a very powerful scene from a Netflix television series Reign that aired several years back. Of course, as you would expect, the show was laced with mystery, romance, scandal and the like. However, none of that is what kept my attention. I felt a deep sense of connection to the main character, Queen Mary. As the series progressed, I watched a young girl grow into her role as a woman and a queen. She was regal, dignified, level-headed, authoritative, strong, witty, intelligent, fair, caring, kind, and gentle.
One night, as my husband walked through the door from work, I stood up, draped a blanket over my shoulders and addressed him this way. “Good evening, my love.” I said in a terrible British accent. He chuckled and said, “Good evening, my queen.” He continues to refer to me as such from time to time (my Netflix profile is even labeled “Queen” lol), and yes, he is my king.
The Proverbs 31 Woman
You see, for those of us who are in Christ, we are a royal priesthood (I Peter 2:9). It is part of our identity in Him. As I researched this a little further, I began to see the “Proverbs 31 Woman” in a different light. Now, before your eyes glaze over because you have heard about this woman a million times, hear me out. She is more than an ideal woman, wife and mother that many of us feel we just cannot measure up to. In fact, we as woman have the power to be just like her. Proverbs 31:10-28 is the Father’s blueprint for the character and definition of woman; it is our true identity. I would even go as far to say that the Proverbs 31 woman is in our DNA.
“Proverbs 31:10-28 is the Father’s blueprint for the character of woman…”
